How do I transfer/back up data from my old phone to my new phone?

Depending on the type of handsets you have there are a couple of different options available for you. Please find below a guide for Apple and Android Handsets and how to transfer data between handsets, including contacts and pictures and also how to back up your data and phone contents.

Transferring Content From Android To iPhone

Using iTunes: 

  1. Connect your Android phone to your computer and find your photos and videos. On most devices, you can find these files in DCIM > Camera. If you’re using a Mac, install Android File Transfer. Then go to Android File Transfer > DCIM > Camera.
  2. Choose the photos and videos that you want to move. Drag them to a folder on your computer.
  3. Unplug your Android phone and connect your iPhone to your computer.
  4. Open iTunes on your computer and click your iPhone.
  5. Click Photos, select the “Sync Photos from” checkbox and choose the folder where you saved your photos. If you’re also moving videos, select “Include Videos".
  6. Click Apply

Backing Up And Restoring From Your Old iPhone To Your New iPhone Using iTunes

Step 1: Optional

If you have the most recent version of iTunes skip this step.

  1. Open iTunes
  2. From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Check for Updates
  3. Follow the prompts to install the latest version

  1. Sync your media and data on your current phone to iTunes before you start
  2. Connect your iPhone via USB cable to your desktop or laptop computer
  3. Start iTunes and begin Sync

Step 3 - Backup New Phone

Begin the backup:

  1. Connect the new iPhone to a computer using a USB cable
  2. iTunes will ask you if you would like to restore, select yes, using the most recent backup

How to Transfer photos and videos for iPhone to iPhone using iCloud

Step 1 - Turn On iCloud

  • Start by backing up your old device to iCloud
  • Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup
  • Turn on iCloud Backup.
  • You may want to connect to power and turn Wi-Fi on.

Step 2 - Backup Now 

  • Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup
  • Tap Back Up Now
  • Wait until the backup finishes. How long it will take depends on how big the backup is and how fast your internet connection is. 

Step 3 - Set Up Your New Device

Turn on your new device & follow the set-up assistant. When you’re asked to set up:

  • Choose Restore from iCloud Backup
  • Tap next
  • Enter your Apple ID and password  

Step 4 - Choose The Backup

Choose the backup of your old device and tap Restore. Wait until the device finishes restoring from the backup

How long it will take depends on how big the backup is and how fast your internet connection is

Syncing other content including music, apps and video

When the restore finishes, your device will restart. You should connect the device to iTunes to sync data that isn't in the backup (such as music, videos, or apps that you didn't purchase from the iTunes Store or the App Store). To change the type of content that syncs, click the syncing tabs in iTunes.

 

How To Transfer Photos And Videos For Samsung Devices

Step 1 - Download The Smart Switch Mobile App

Download and install Smart Switch from Google Play or Galaxy Apps on your compatible old smartphone and compatible new Samsung device.

Step 2 – Transferring Your Content

  1. Launch Smart Switch on both devices
  2. Position both phones within 20cm of each other
  3. On your old phone select the content you want to transfer then tap “Transfer”
  4. On your new phone tap OK to accept the transferred content

Step 3 - Find Similar Apps

Once your content is transferred, you can either: Tap “Download Similar Apps” for apps similar to those on your previous device. This feature is designed to save you time searching for them. You’ll also see app recommendations from Samsung or Tap “Exit” to close the application.
