Optus 2G network closure

On the 1st of August 2017 Optus will be closing down their 2G mobile network. This means that thousands of people across the country will need to update their mobile phones to access the faster 3G/4G network. If you are still using a 2G mobile phone after the shutdown date, you will no longer be able to make or receive calls, texts or access the internet.

HOW CAN I TELL IF I AM USING A 2G PHONE?
2G phones are normally older phones with basic features. If you have a 2G device you’ll notice the following symbols 2GEdgeE or GPRS in the top right hand corner when the phone is switched on. On some really old phones, you may not see any symbols at all. If this is the case, it is likely that your phone is a 2G mobile phone.

If you see the symbols 3GH+4G or LTE on your phone's screen, then it means your phone is compatible with new technologies and does not need to be updated.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
If you are currently using a 2G mobile phone, you will need to upgrade to a 3G or 4G compatible handset.  There are plenty of options available to make the changeover quick and easy. Simply visit southernphone.com.au/personal/mobile/phones to find a phone and plan that's right for you.
