$25,000 To The Narromine Community

Narromine community benefits from Southern Phone grant

Five community groups across the Narromine Shire have shared in $25,000. The $25,000 was donated to the community through a Southern Phone Grant.

Narromine is just one of 41 councils to be awarded the grant to share amongst the community groups and recipients include;

  • Rotary Club of Narromine, Narromine Cycle Club Inc.,
  • Trangie Multipurpose Health Service (Cancer Support Group)
  • Trangie Action Group and the
  • Narromine Cancer Support Group

Southern Phone is owned by 41 shareholder councils and pays all dividends back to local communities through its shareholders.

Mr Hilzinger said the ratepayers were the shareholders in the company. "You're all shareholders in Southern Phones, you pay the rates, these guys (council) only think they're the shareholders, yet you are," he said with a laugh. "It's your money, not ours."

Mayor of Narromine Shire Bill McAnally thanked Mr Hilzinger. "The $25,000 given to our shire has made a real difference bringing resources to projects that council could not fund on its own," he said
