Samsung Galaxy A42 5G Specifications

Camera: In comparison to the 13MP capability of the Galaxy A21sthe A42’s 20MP front-facing camera is a step up from the next best handset in the series. With Live Focus also enabled for optimal clarity, this translates into some pretty sharp selfies and video calls. The rear camera is also an improvement, with a 2 x 2 quad set up as follows: 48 MP (wide camera), 8 MP (ultrawide camera), 5 MP (macro camera) and a 5 MP (depth camera).

Each camera plays a part in adding depth and detail to your subjects while shooting. Swipe left or right to access the full range of features available here. Together, each piece combines to provide an overall clear and sharp image. As an additional bonus, you can utilise the Galaxy A42’s Night Mode, which keeps the detail in your shots, even after dark.

Storage: There is nothing worse than snapping away before suddenly – error message – your phone is out of storage! Even worse, is filming a precious moment and your video cutting out. Complimenting the great camera capabilities of the A21s, it’s storage has been built to match.

With 128GB of internal storage, similar to the Samsung Galaxy A51, the phone comfortably handles all the photo, video, music most of us carry n the go.

If 128GB isn’t enough, the phone can handle up to 1 terabyte of extra storage with the addition of Micro SD Card. To put that into perspective, this extra storage results in roughly 63,000 high-quality photos to play with.

Battery: The Samsung Galaxy A42 is powered by a 5000 mAh battery, offering up to 36 hours of talking time. While this is admittedly quite impressive, the true potential of the battery power is realised with its quick charge capability. The A42 supports 15W of Adaptive Fast Charging through a specialised adapter available in-box.

Among the primary callouts of fast charging is the ability to sense when the phone has reached peak charge. The adaptive charge stops any further charge, prolonging the life of your battery. This feature is already available in many of Samsung’s other recent releases including the Galaxy S20/S20+ models and the Note 10 series. Actual battery life for the Galaxy A42 may vary depending on multiple factors, including network environment, age, and usage patterns.

Display: If the screen resolution is important o you, then you will love what the Samsung Galaxy A42 brings to the table. The display is a 6.6" HD+ Super AMOLED for crisp image quality and maximised touch usability. According to Samsung, the screen is also less reflective than, allowing for easy use in sunlight.

The handset also features a 720 x 1600 pixels Infinity-U Display (the letter stands for the shape of the front-facing camera notch). A similar Infinity-V display can also be found in the Samsung Galaxy A12 and has become synonymous with many Samsung models.

Samsung Galaxy A42 5G Key Features

The Samsung Galaxy A42 5G, as the name suggests, comes optimised for 5G, allowing you to easily connect to the network and enjoy a better online experience. The phone is also prebuilt with its Android 10 and Samsung's custom One UI 2.5 software overlay.

While the Galaxy A42 takes from many advanced Samsung phone, its smooth design makes it a standout from other models. Arguably the most standout feature is the plastic holographic pattern and premium gloss finish on its back. This section of the body is layered in Prism Dot, making for a dynamic look. There is a fingerprint reader under the Galaxy A52’s display for security, although it also allows users to set up face recognition instead if they prefer.

The increased battery capacity also means the Galaxy A42 is slightly heavier than previous versions. But at 190 grams, this is still one of the lightest devices on the market, especially compared to similarly sized smartphones in its class. For the featherweight phone that still packs enough technical punch, check out the Samsung Galaxy A71.

Another unique feature of this smartphone is the multi-functional 3.5mm headphone jack port. In a throwback to the standard mobile phone experience, it allows you to both charge your phone and listen to music at the same time. However, the Galaxy A42 is Bluetooth-enabled, making it easy to connect to wireless headphones if preferred. The headphone jack also functions as an antenna for the inbuilt FM radio.

If you are looking for a phone for kids the Galaxy A42 is a great consideration to include in your list of child-friendly devices. By activating the “Samsung Kids” parental control feature in settings, you can keep tabs on their app use and set limits for daily usage time. Furthermore, the Galaxy A42 allows you to see their activity history, including who they are contacting and how they use the internet. This feature can only be disabled by a PIN code, making it secure to use.
